I'd always wanted to visit the Sahara in Morocco. I'd seen it a thousand times in photos, documentaries, and travelogues, and it always built up enormous expectations. But at the same time, I couldn't help but have some doubts: Isn't it one of those destinations that promises a lot and then feels a bit overrated?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With that mixture of excitement and skepticism, I embarked on the journey to Merzouga from Fez, wondering if I would truly live up to expectations. Because imagining the desert is one thing, but actually being there is quite another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this post I'm going to tell you exactly that: what it feels like to explore the Sahara from Merzouga, what it's like to stand in front of the Erg Chebbi dunes, and what you can really expect from the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
