That endless red earth, along with those varied rock formations, creates the illusion of being on Mars. You don&#039;t have to travel on Elon Musk&#039;s SpaceX ships to go to space; you just have to go to the Wadi Rum desert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I remember planning to visit this place many years ago. The culprit? <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lawrence_de_Arabia_(pel%C3%ADcula)\">Lawrence of Arabia movie<\/a>That epic 1960s film had a splendid photography and artistic production that has remained etched in my retina. It&#039;s one of those films that, after watching it, you think, where was this filmed? As I mentioned in the article about <a href=\"https:\/\/elprismadefer.com\/en\/dahab-y-el-mar-rojo\/\">Dahab and the Red Sea<\/a>We entered Jordan from Israel&#039;s southern border, Eilat-Aqaba. Until a few years ago, it was a very simple crossing; we even crossed the Egypt-Israel-Jordan border in a couple of hours. But as of today, 2025, I don&#039;t know its current status due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and several of its neighboring countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That same day we arrived in Aqaba, we chose a hostel and spent the night. The next day we took a taxi to the <strong>Wadi Rum Visitor Center<\/strong>, where our host, the Bedouin owner of the camp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/jo\/wadi-rum-jordan-camp.en.html?aid=1920185&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\">Wadi Rum Jordan Camp<\/a> that we booked, he would be waiting for us with his 4\u00d74 to take us from there to his camp.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elprismadefer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/blog_wadirum10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"522\" src=\"http:\/\/elprismadefer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/blog_wadirum10.jpg\" alt=\"Campamento beduino en Wadi Rum\" class=\"wp-image-12002\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>There are several alternatives for<strong> reach the Wadi Rum desert<\/strong>, depending on where and with what medium.. These are some of those options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Desde_Aman_la_capital_de_Jordania_a_Wadi_Rum_320_km_4_horas\"><\/span>From Amman, the capital of Jordan, to Wadi Rum (320 km, 4 hours)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1. <strong>Rental car<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can rent a car in Amman and drive to Wadi Rum via the <strong>Desert Highway (Highway 15)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is the most comfortable and flexible option if you plan to explore other places like <strong>Petra and the Dead Sea<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are parking lots in the <strong>Wadi Rum Visitor Center<\/strong>, where you can leave your car before entering the desert.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>JETT Bus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are no direct buses to Wadi Rum, but you can take a bus <strong>Amman \u2192 Aqaba<\/strong> and then another to Wadi Rum.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The company <strong>JETT<\/strong> has daily departures from Amman to Aqaba (<strong>5 hours<\/strong>, approx. <strong>10 JOD<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From Aqaba, follow the options explained below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>3. <strong>Taxi or private transfer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can hire a taxi or a private transfer from Amman to Wadi Rum, although it is the most expensive option (<strong>90-120 JOD<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ideal if you are traveling in a group and want comfort.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elprismadefer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/blog_wadirum01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"578\" src=\"http:\/\/elprismadefer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/blog_wadirum01.jpg\" alt=\"Desierto de Wadi Rum\" class=\"wp-image-11994\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Wadi Rum Desert<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Desde_Petra_Wadi_Musa_a_Wadi_Rum_110_km_15_horas\"><\/span>From Petra (Wadi Musa) to Wadi Rum (110 km, 1.5 hours)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1. <strong>Local bus (JETT or minibus)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are daily minibuses from <strong>Petra to Wadi Rum<\/strong>, which come out between the <strong>6:00 \u2013 7:00 AM<\/strong> from Wadi Musa bus station.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The journey lasts <strong>1.5 hours<\/strong> and costs around <strong>10 JOD<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure to book with your hotel or directly with the bus station, as schedules may vary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>Taxi or private transfer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A private taxi costs between <strong>30-40 JOD<\/strong> and can be a good option if you are traveling in a group.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many hotels in Petra offer this service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>3.: <strong>Rental car<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Driving from Petra to Wadi Rum is straightforward; We barely arrived at the camp. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/jo\/wadi-rum-jordan-camp.en.html?aid=1920185&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\">Wadi Rum Jordan Camp<\/a>We spoke with the friendly Bedouin host and booked a 4x4 jeep tour to explore the desert and its main attractions. The tour lasted approximately four hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If I could go back, I would definitely stay at least two days. I felt rushed, and it was quite intense to do everything in one day. Traveling from Aqaba to the visitor center, then to the camp, having a quick brunch, and then heading out on the hike. Then returning to watch the sunset from one of the hills near the camp and finally having dinner in the tents\u2026 too much for me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-default\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elprismadefer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/blog_wadirum04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"898\" src=\"http:\/\/elprismadefer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/blog_wadirum04.jpg\" alt=\"Caminando en el desierto con rocas en el fondo\" class=\"wp-image-11997\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Everything is so beautiful, and I loved every minute of that day. But it seemed like a lot. Even more so if I&#039;m in a desert, where the little life there is happens in slow motion.
